Jannik Sinner and the gray areas of a doping case
Jannik Sinner is back on tennis courts, after three months of suspension for two positive controls to a prohibited substance, in 2024. Under the agreement concluded between the Italian player and the World Anti -Doping Agency (AMA), his sanction ends, Sunday, May 4. The world number 1 is expected at the Masters 1000 in Rome, which begins Wednesday, May 7.
By competing in his first tournament in his country, where he is very popular, the double winner of the Australian Open (2024, 2025) and the winner of the US Open 2024 will undoubtedly avoid a bronca of the public. But it is not certain that it is the same during other upcoming meetings, as the gray areas remain numerous in this case, which never ceases to poison the atmosphere on the circuit.
Is the scenario put forward by Jannik Sinner plausible?
In March 2024, during and after the Indian Wells tournament (California), Jannik Sinner was tested positive, twice, at Clostebol, an anabolic. He explained that he was accidentally contaminated during a massage provided by Giacomo Naldi, his physiotherapist. He treated a finger cut with a spray called Trofodermin and containing this prohibited product.
