The fantastic 4, first steps: flames, I love you [critique]
If the first tests on the big screen were disastrous, the historic Marvel Quartet has the right to a new chance. Surprise, it’s very successful.
It is lavatic summer. The wrung franchises went to the machine to make people forget tasks that were believed to be indelible. Dinos have thus returned to their fundamentals (not bad!), The Superman of DC itou (yeah …) and The Fantastic 4 pretend to do their first steps (more than not bad!). The Marvalization of Spirits seems to have disturbed to the parent company and therefore its big Boss Kevin Feige which greatly participated in making superhero films these pyrotechnic orgies fellow.
ANDpure line
We are surprised here by the line of the line. The retro is assumed, a card announces “Earth: 828” but we are lying, these are the sixties: retro therefore, even in the saps of The thing (The very “end” Ebon Moss-Bachrach), the only one of the four to settle the real world assuming with the populace its stupid fair side and-why not-its desire for emancipation (a beautiful sequence is enough to draw a Romcom ‘). The others live reclined in their ivory tower where the fate of a threatened humanity is decided to extinction by a giant Glouton (Galactus). A mastodon which in an inverted force ratio wants to take control of a … newborn!
Retro also in this way of considering a company under a bell quick to get the soft stuffed with beautiful speeches (really retro?). We had already marked in the Superman by James Gunn to see the info info returning like pancakes a reduced mouton opinion to raise his head in the air with amazed eyes. But on our “Earth: 828” the televisions are still these large, unfortunate cubes.
The Fantastic 4 are therefore a little alone in the world and, in fact, we are here with the family: a couple, a brother-in-law and a best friend. Their perimeter of action is reduced to a magnificent penthouse with high tech design. Everyone is waiting for the others around the table for Sunday evening dinner. “”What did you do, we were worried!“Hello intimacy! This household with four did not prevent the elastic elastic (Pedro Pascal, impeccable in perpetually worried patriarch) and on the invisible (the charismatic Vanessa Kirky) of having made a baby.
The first part can thus be seen as a family comedy on more or less proven anxiety to welcome a new member in a household. As for those who would wonder if a superheroine has the right to its maternity leave while the land burns, the scenario has the good taste not to ask the question. Good -complex feminism with a surfer who has become surfer (moving Julia Garner). And Sue Storm to conquer the space to nine months of pregnancy. It’s beautiful.
Godzillesque
Matt Shakman’s camera (the man behind the series WandaVision) Do not play elbows, there remains in its good place the look in the retro (decidedly!) Of the original comics. Its final Godzillesque is amazing visual beauty (and sobriety). Recently Feige entrusted to Empire Magazinerefer to the previous tests not fantastic: “It was another era. There was always this fear of being a little ridiculous.“Does this mean that a good big giant as a galactus with his light eyes was not possible before?
His excess today fully assumed reconfigures our perception of a sudden magic universe. Hyper-Space is a place-mockery where loneliness is measured by the yardstick of a large scale without value. Thus the messenger Shalla -Bal – Silver Surfer – seems perpetually on the verge of tears seeking erasure. Everyone luges their own pain in shoulder. This film, despite its gleaming blue, grinds black. Sourky sixties with a reflection not so distant.
Shakman goes so far as to quote the 2001 From Kubrick marrying the beauty of the vessels playing Russian dolls. It is perhaps this innocence that had been lost on the way and that this narrative and aesthetic retropedage of franchises attempts to find. Vintage, retro, perhaps, but not react ‘, these 4 Fantasticlucids on themselves, re-enchant a tired imagination. Let’s take advantage of it before our friends are swallowed by the Ogre Avengers as suggested by the promotional post-generic scene. Masks!
