Stars together with rocker Pete Townsend, Chita Rivera, Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick and Melissa Rivers are coming together to attempt to save the venerable theater haunt West Bank Café.
There will likely be a star-studded digital telethon streaming free of charge starting Dec. 25 for the spot, which has been on the verge of closing for good due to the pandemic.
Al Pacino mentioned of the restaurant in an unique (and poetic) assertion to Web page Six: “The West Bank Café has all the time meant a terrific deal to me. It’s proper there in the midst of every thing on 42nd and ninth and open to everybody. It’s very comforting to know that it’s there.”
The Oscar winner added: “The meals is all the time recent and good, the environment heat and, consider it or not, each evening downstairs totally different acts and mini-plays are carried out. To lose a spot like that will be a loss for our nice metropolis that we might really feel. To me, it’s a landmark… a part of the only a few that provides our metropolis id — low-key, but New York.
“The ambiance of it’s good with these home windows open to 42nd. There have been nights we might sit in there watching the snow falling outdoors. There are locations which have vibes, the West Bank has a vibe, and the vibe is easy and alive. I hope it hangs in there.”
The fundraiser goals to repay the place’s 2020 debt incurred from the pandemic, and pay West Bank’s hire for 2021 “to give them time to get again on their ft.”
