Andrew Gillum, the once-rising Democratic star who narrowly misplaced the 2018 Florida governor’s race, has opened up for the primary time since exiting public life and entering rehab.
Talking in an 11-minute Instagram publish Monday, the 40-year-old politician obtained candid about his struggles battling alcoholism and melancholy, which he says worsened considerably following his loss to now-Gov. Ron DeSantis.
“I went away to rehab to give attention to my points with alcoholism, having grown up in a family the place my father battled habit to alcohol, and later died from that habit. I knew properly the toll it took on my father’s desires and ambitions,” the previous Tallahassee mayor stated.
In March, Gillum was discovered inebriated inside a Miami Seaside hotel room with one other man who allegedly overdosed on crystal meth.
