We finally know if Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Spoilers ahead for Spider-Man: No Way Home.
No recent film in memory has been the subject of grand rumors as Spider-Man: No Way Home. For months, rumors persisted that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield would be returning as their respective Peter Parkers for the third film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man trilogy. While lead star Tom Holland denied the rumors, mounting evidence such as leaked photos suggested otherwise.
Tobey Maguire wasn’t in the crosshair of journalists, which meant The Amazing Spider-Man‘s Andrew Garfield had to pick up the slack for him. Despite denying his return as Spider-Man countless times, journalists continued to hound Andrew Garfield with Spidey-related questions throughout the year.
Now that the film is finally out and has been praised to no end by fans and critics, we finally know if the former Spider-Mans have joined Tom Holland’s Spidey threequel.
Of course they’re in it! There was far too much evidence to suggest otherwise. Just over halfway through the film, Ned gets his hands on Doctor Strange’s sling ring, which allows him to have access to magical powers. After Aunt May’s death at the hands of the Green Goblin, MJ and Ned are desperate to see their friend again. Using the sling ring, Ned opens up a portal to a Peter Parker… except it isn’t their Peter Parker. Instead, Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man stumbles through the portal, participating in a hilarious stand-off with MJ and Ned.
Ned uses the sling ring once again, opening up a portal to Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, who appears to be hanging out on a rooftop. There, both Maguire and Garfield’s Peter Parker meet for the first time and engage in a short but hilarious web battle to see if either is really Spider-Man. The two heroes and MJ and Ned go find Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, who is still reeling from the death of his aunt.
After saving the villains, both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield go back to their respective Spider-Man universes, leaving the door open for future appearances.
