‘Batgirl’ Set Photo Offers Update On ‘Batman V Superman’s Lex Luthor

A new set photo from Batgirl gives us a clue as to what Batman v Superman‘s Lex Luthor is up to.

The last time we saw Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor was in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, where he was sharing glasses of champagne with Slade Wilson after revealing Batman’s true identity. Prior to that, Lex Luthor was tossed into Arkham Asylum after his plans from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice were made public. While it’s unknown if Eisenberg will ever reprise his role as the villain, HBO Max’s Batgirl seems to be offering an update on the maniacal tycoon.

Photos from the London set of Batgirl have been trickling in and the latest one offers a brief glimpse at a magazine, the Gotham Tattler. The cover story for the gossip magazine is focused on Lex Luthor, who appears to still be in Arkham Asylum. It looks like he won’t be in there for long as the magazine reveals that the billionaire, in an exclusive interview, has hired a new lawyer to appeal his sentence.

What’s interesting is that Batgirl will feature Michael Keaton’s Batman, who is set to take over Ben Affleck’s Caped Crusader duties. With Keaton folded into the DCEU, one would imagine that the film would distance itself from Zack Snyder’s various projects, but that doesn’t look to be the case. We’re also wondering how Batgirl fits into the larger DC timeline, as Lex Luthor was last seen escaping Arkham Asylum in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are directing Batgirl, which is being planned as a movie for the WarnerMedia streaming service HBO Max. Christina Hodson, the screenwriter behind Birds of Prey and The Flash, penned the script. DC’s Batgirl movie is set to follow the Barbara Gordon iteration of the Gotham City heroine. J.K. Simmons also stars as Commissioner Gordon, Brendan Fraser appearing as the villain Firefly, and Michael Keaton as Batman.
