Chris Evans Would Rather Return As Human Torch Than Captain America

Chris Evans recently shared that he would rather come back as Human Torch than Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Chris Evans’ days as Captain America are seemingly over following the events of Avengers: Endgame. While there was a report suggesting Evans would be back as Captain America, Kevin Feige later debunked those claims. Ahead of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, there were also rumors that Evans would reprise his Human Torch role from Tim Story’s Fantastic Four films.

While the return of Chris Evans as Human Torch didn’t come to fruition in the Doctor Strange sequel, we were introduced to John Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic. Evans was recently asked about a potential return as Human Torch after playing Captain America for so many years in an interview with MTV‘s Josh Horowitz. Here’s how that exchange went down:

Horowitz: “Look, I mean, you can’t top how you went out as Cap, and it’s gonna take the right thing eventually. Maybe, who knows. But here’s my question. There were a lot of rumors that you could come back in the Multiverse as another Marvel character you played, Johnny Storm. Did they ever come to you?”

Evans: “God, wouldn’t that be great? Wouldn’t that be great?”

Chris Evans Back As Human Torch?

Chris Evans went on to say that he is all for returning as the Human Torch and that it would be “an easier sell” than returning as Captain America:

Horowitz: “Well, they are, but as you well know, in the Multiverse, all bets [are off]… you can have six different Johnny Storms.”

Evans: “Yeah, I guess that’s true. I mean, I guess all bets are off. Yeah. Look, I would love it. I would love it. That would actually be an easier sell to me than coming back as Cap. You know what I mean? Cap is so precious to me. And you know, I almost don’t wanna disrupt what a beautiful experience that was. But Johnny Storm, I feel like he didn’t really get his day. That was before Marvel really found its footing. So I loved that role and, you know, who knows.”

Here is the synopsis for Chris Evans’ latest film, Lightyear:

The definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the hero who inspired the toy, “Lightyear” follows the legendary Space Ranger after he’s marooned on a hostile planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth alongside his commander and their crew. Directed by Angus MacLane, the film features the voice talents of Chris Evans, Uzo Aduba, Peter Sohn, Keke Palmer, Taika Waititi, Dale Soules, James Brolin, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Efren Ramirez, and Keira Hairston.
