Daniel Kaluuya Reportedly Returning As W’Kabi In Black Panther 2

Black Panther‘s Daniel Kaluuya, who played W’Kabi, the leader of Wakanda’s Border Tribe, is reportedly returning for this year’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The Black Panther sequel is set to focus on the tribes and people of Wakanda, following the death of Chadwick Boseman, who played the title role in the first film. Little is currently known about the sequel, which is slated for a November release. Several cast members from the first film are confirmed to be reprising their roles, including Leititia Wright as Shuri and Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, while the film is also introducing Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams, who is set to star in her own Disney Plus series, Ironheart. Daniel Kaluuya’s return had not been officially announced, but costume designer Stacy Caballero may have let slip the news of his return.

Caballero’s current resume confirms her involvement with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as an assistant costume designer, a position she also held on 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. Daniel Kaluuya is listed amongst the actors Caballero has worked with on the project, the others being Lupita Nyong’o and Angela Bassett, who played T’Challa’s mother, Ramonda, in Black Panther. While this is not an official confirmation of Kaluuya’s return, it is the first indication that he will likely appear in the film.

Daniel Kaluuya had a major supporting role in the first film, where W’Kabi turned against King T’Challa to support Eric Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) after Killmonger successfully killed Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis). While his betrayal of his king saw W’Kabi eventually surrendering to his wife and General of the Dora Milaje, Okoye, presumably leading to W’Kabi’s imprisonment, it is not surprising that the character would return for the sequel. However, the new information from Caballero makes that return seem a little more certain.

Here is the synopsis for the first film:

After the death of his father, the king of Wakanda, young T’Challa returns home to the isolated high-tech African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king – and Black Panther – is tested when he’s drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, he must release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.

Directed by Ryan Coogler, the film stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will hit theaters on November 11, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the upcoming film, and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content!
