Famed Dutch crime reporter Peter R. de Vries is reportedly clinging to life after getting shot on an Amsterdam street on Tuesday.
De Vries, a celeb in the Netherlands identified for exposing the prison underworld, was blasted in the head shortly after leaving the studio of Dutch broadcaster RTL, police officers and the media community mentioned.
Three suspects, together with the potential gunman, have been detained after the taking pictures, police mentioned.
“He was critically wounded and is preventing for his life,” Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema mentioned in a televised information convention.
“He’s a nationwide hero to us all. A uncommon, brave journalist who tirelessly sought justice.”
De Vries, 64, regularly seems on crime exhibits in the Netherlands and is a well-sourced reporter with contacts in each legislation enforcement and the underworld.
He’s well-known for his investigative work on the 1983 kidnapping of the beer magnate Freddy Heineken.
In 2008, he gained a global Emmy Award for his work investigating the 2005 disappearance of teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba.
