The forthcoming summer window is already looking like it could be a rather interesting one for West London club, Chelsea, as the club hierarchy is preparing to splash the cash ones again.
After spending over £220million on landing new talent last summer transfer window, Chelsea was unlikely to sign any new players during the recently closed winter window, despite German tactician Thomas Tuchel succeeding club legend Frank Lampard as the new head coach of the Premier League club.
Despite failing to sign new players in the winter transfer window, the Blues did offload some players, including Brazilian attacker Lucas Piazon and center-half Fikayo Tomori, with the central defender joining Italian Serie A giants AC Milan on loan till the end of the campaign with a view of making it permanent later in the summer window.
Although Chelsea will not have earned a huge sum of money, for Lucas Piazon, they will have recouped some money, including saving on Tomori’s salary.
Whilst the amount saved will be saved for the next transfer window in the summer, head coach Thomas Tuchel is already looking like he will receive the backing of Roman billionaire owner Roman Abramovich, with players like Austrian David Alaba, who has confirmed his departure from Bayern Munich at the end of the campaign, another Bayern player Niklas Sule, Inter Milan starAchraf Hakimi, and Dortmund forward Erling Haaland all being connected with summer transfers to Chelsea. All these transfer are all included in a treble bet for the fans.
Although numerous reports suggest that signing striker Haaland, who continued his brilliant run of form with two goals in the UEFA Champions League against Sevilla last Wednesday, is already at the top of the managers wish list, adding to his attacking line may not be the main priority of the German tactician this summer window.
Notwithstanding, when asked about the club’s reported interest in the Borussia Dortmund frontman last week, Tuchel, decided to stay tight-lipped.
Although the Norwegian is the name every Blues faithful is presently talking about, luring a center-half this summer window may be the priority over landing the Norway international striker.
The Bluesrisk losing two of their first team central-defenders this coming summer window in Tomori and Thiago Silva. The Brazilian is yet to pen a new deal at the club and young Tomori could complete a permanent move to AC Milan.
The Blues are likely to divert their energy to trying to lure a new central defender to Stamford Bridge this summer window, with David Alaba on their wishlist.
As it is, club transfer guru Marina Granovskaiais on a mission to decide on a trio of center-backs. Spaniard Cesar Azpilicueta, German defender Antonio Rudiger and Danish star Andreas Christensen are all into the final year of their contract, meaning Marina must decide on their futures ahead of possibly losing them for nothing once they are into the final six months of their contracts in January 2022.
The three defenders found themselves in and out of Lampard’s squad but have all been handed fresh hope under new boss Thomas Tuchel, with the new tactician’s new-look 3-4-2-1 setup.
