‘Ms. Marvel’ Debuts With Lowest Viewership For MCU Series

Ms. Marvel had the least-watched premiere compared to the other live-action Disney Plus shows.

Ms. Marvel is the latest series from Marvel Studios, which hit the streaming service last week. According to Samba TV, the first episode only collected 775k US households in its first five days. This puts Ms. Marvel below Hawkeye‘s 1.5 million, which was previously the lowest-viewed premiere for a live-action MCU series. The What If…? premiere is technically lower than Ms. Marvel, but there are only viewership numbers for one day.

Because of Obi-Wan?

Despite the low viewership numbers for the Ms. Marvel premiere, it still attracted more Gen Z and diverse audience members than the other Marvel Studios shows. It’s also worth noting that, unlike past MCU shows, Ms. Marvel faced direct competition with the fourth episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi, which hit Disney Plus on the same day. This could be a sign of things to come as more Star Wars and Marvel shows start to debut on the same day.

Here is the synopsis for the Disney Plus series:

Marvel Studios’ “Ms. Marvel” is a new, original series that introduces Kamala Khan, a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City. An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a Super Hero mega fan with an oversized imagination—particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home—that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with super powers, right?

The series stars Iman Vellani, Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Matt Lintz, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Fawad Khan, Mehwish Hayat, and Farhan Akhtar. Episodes of the series were directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, with Bisha K. Ali serving as the head writer. Marvel’s Kevin Feige is involved in the series as an executive producer.

Ms. Marvel is now streaming on Disney Plus, with new episodes released every Wednesday. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the Disney Plus series, and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more original video content.
