Netflix renews ‘The Night Agent’ for a second season quickly

A day after Netflix revealed record highest opening viewership for The Night Agent, the streaming service announced a 10-episode second edition of the political conspiracy adventure series from producer Shawn Ryan and Sony Pictures Television. This is one of Netflix’s quickest renewal choices, since the company generally waits for statistics on a series’ 28-day performance for pulling the trigger.

The streaming giant has renewed the program from Sony Online Television and producer Shawn Ryan for a second season. The Gabriel Basso-starring film premiered on Netflix on Thursday and quickly rose to the top of the English TV list, with over 168 million hours watched, becoming it the most viewed item this week. The second season, which will consist of 10 episodes, will premiere in 2024.

Ryan is the showrunner and executive producer under his MiddKid Productions. Seth Gordon, who directed the first episode, executive produces for Exhibit A. Marney Hochman of MiddKid Productions, Julia Gunn of Exhibit A, Jamie Vanderbilt, William Sherak, Paul Neinstein, and Nicole Tossou of Project X, and David Beaubaire of Sunset Lane Media are also executive producers on The Night Agent. The studio is Sony Pictures Television.

“We’re proud to see The Night Agent achieve a breakout success and become instantly embraced around the world,” said Jinny Howe, Netflix’s VP of Drama Series. “Shawn Ryan has created a spy thriller sensation that watchers can’t get enough of, with just a stellar cast featuring Gabriel Basso, Luciane Buchanan, and Hong Chau, and we’re here to bring them more of the action and thrillers they love,”

“For the time being, it’s unclear if SWAT will be renewed for a seventh season, and the decision has nothing to do with ratings.” “That circumstance would never have happened 15 years ago,” he claimed. “SWAT is third in the demo at CBS; there’s no reason why the programme shouldn’t be renewed other than the shifting economics of the company.” CBS and Sony will either find out how to make a season seven work fiscally or they will not.”

“The last week has been a blur as we’ve finally been able to share The Night Agent with the rest of the world.” The incredible response to the show has been a huge delight, and it is a testament to our actors, writers, directors, crew, and our partners at Sony Pictures Television and Netflix. “We couldn’t be more proud or happy to get started on season two and share the next adventures of Night Action with our newfound fans,” Ryan said in a statement released Wednesday.
“The last week has been a whirlwind as we’ve finally been able to share The Night Agent with the rest of the world,” said Ryan, series creator, executive producer, and showrunner. “Seeing the overwhelming response to the show has been a huge delight. It is a testament to our actors, writers, directors, crew, and partners at Sony Pictures Television and Netflix.” We couldn’t be more proud or happy to get started on Season 2 and share more Night Action experiences with our newfound followers.”
