Richard Linklater films the new wave in action: trailer

New wave: a delightful style exercise [critique]

Richard Linklater recounts the filming of a breath of breath in a lively and joyful comedy, barely weighed down by its heritage and tourist dimension.

Le Texan Richard Linklater comes to Paris to reconstitute the manufacture ofOut of breaththe inaugural Godard which made the new wave a tidal wave, in early 1960. The director of Boyhoodking of coming-of-age movieenvisages this French mythology as the pretext of a new learning film, youth, first times. It is Rebellious generation relocated in the Latin district.

His talent to recreate small space-time bubbles in which life is good to work here, and doubles an extraordinary exercise of style “in the manner of”, a superbly made pastiche, carried by irresistible actors, which gives this New wave Airs of True-Faux film by Godard-that of the Sixties, bonuses and whimsical.

Linklater undoubtedly aims to encourage young filmmakers today to regain carelessness and the desire to deconstruct everything that agitated Godard and Cie at the time. A gesture in slight contradiction with the heritage approach of the company, its respectful reverences which are also those of an American tourist in Paris, of a fan who has clearly chosen to “print legend”.

We never have access to the interiority of Godard, constantly hidden behind his dark glasses and his aphorisms, and which will remain until the end this silhouette out of a clear line. But it is not the intention of the film, which wants to be pedago but cool, a course in the history of cinema to laugh and accelerated, like the visit of the Louvre in Separate band.
