No Way Home’ Looks To Win Labor Day Box Office Weekend

Sony Pictures’ re-release of Spider-Man: No Way Home featuring newly-added scenes is expected to win the Labor Day box office weekend.

Months after its official home release, Sony Pictures has brought back Spider-Man: No Way Home to theaters with a special extended edition titled, The More Fun Stuff Version. The film, which broke many box office records when it hit theaters last December, is enjoying yet another weekend at the top of the box office charts, much of which is thanks to National Cinema Day, in which $3 admission was offered at many theaters nationwide. The film grossed an estimated $6 million in three days, with an expected $7.6 million for all of Labor Day weekend.

Right behind Spider-Man: No Way Home is Top Gun: Maverick, which also continues to break many box office records. But what makes the state of the box office all the more interesting is the fact that the top two titles are films that already been released for at-home viewing. Typically, Labor Day weekend is associated with being one of the weaker weekends at the box office, given that many families are preparing for school to resume session among other seasonal events.

But with the success of these two films just goes to show how much of an impact they left on audiences. So much so, that many of them likely already own the film at home, but just value the theatergoing experience of seeing them again on the big screen.

Here is the synopsis for Spider-Man: No Way Home:

For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero’s identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. When he enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.

Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Benedict Wong, Tony Revolori, Marisa Tomei, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire.
