Police declare riot in Portland after May Day protesters break windows

Demonstrations in Portland to commemorate May Day Saturday turned violent in a single day, with officers declaring a riot and arresting six folks, one with a knife.

Three separate Starbucks shops and a Hilton lodge in the Oregon metropolis have been marred by graffiti, and one man was charged with menacing cops with a knife, Portland police mentioned on Twitter.

May 1, or May Day, is well known in many countries as Worldwide Staff Day or Labor Day.

Portland’s demonstration on Saturday started peacefully, police mentioned, with about 100 folks gathering in the town, together with close to a federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility.
