Robert Aaron Long stopped by Georgia trooper using PIT maneuver: report

A Georgia state trooper used the pursuit intervention approach — generally referred to as the PIT maneuver — to nab the 21-year-old accused therapeutic massage parlors gunman, based on a report.

Robert Aaron Long, 21, was reportedly driving south on Interstate 75 in Crisp County when he was outmaneuvered by the trooper who used the approach on the black 2007 Hyundai Tucson, Fox Information reported.

Long was then taken into custody “with out incident” and was being held within the Crisp County jail for Cherokee County authorities, who had been anticipated to reach quickly to proceed their investigation.

The PIT maneuver, which “induced the car to spin uncontrolled,” is usually deployed to finish pursuits when the motive force fails to cease and is deemed a hazard, based on Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock.

Using the pursuit tactic, which was invented by an FBI cadet in 1992, the pursuing officer pulls alongside the fleeing car and hits it behind its rear wheels whereas steering into its course, inflicting it to spin uncontrolled.
