The official audience CinemaScore grade for Robert Pattinson’s The Batman has been revealed.
After years of anticipation, Matt Reeves’ long-awaited DC Comics film The Batman has finally hit theaters, and has received mostly positive reviews from critics. In particular, Robert Pattinson is impressing viewers with his portrayal of a Caped Crusader who is less concerned with his persona as Bruce Wayne and more obsessed with his nightly job as the Dark Knight in his second year of fighting crime in Gotham City. Now, we got our official CinemaScore grade for the film.
Last night, CinemaScore announced that Robert Pattinson’s The Batman has received an A- grade from audiences on opening night. Given that the film, which clocks in at an epic 176 minute runtime and is more of a grounded detective psychological thriller rather than typical superhero fare, this grade of an A- from audiences is quite impressive.
Compared to previous CinemaScore grades for films featuring the Caped Crusader, Batman (1989) received an A, Batman Returns received a B, Batman Forever received an A-, Batman and Robin received a C+, Batman Begins received an A, The Dark Knight received an A, The Dark Knight Rises received an A, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice received a B, The LEGO Batman Movie received an A-, and Justice League received a B+.
According to its official website, CinemaScore has polled moviegoers since 1978 at major releases on opening night to collect demographic information and calculate a distinctive letter grade. Based on the mostly-positive response from audiences, who currently give the film a 91% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it sure looks like The Batman will have quite an impressive run at the box office.
Here is the synopsis for Robert Pattinson’s The Batman:
Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies — Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) — amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.
When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.
Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
