Shaggy saw ‘wonderful’ Chris Rock days before Oscars slap

Shaggy is the latest celebrity to rave about Chris Rock’s character, calling him “one of the better human beings” he has ever met.

The reggae icon, 53, spoke to Page Six this week following his elimination from “The Masked Singer” and revealed he hung out with Rock, 57, just days before Will Smith infamously slapped the comedian on stage at the 2022 Oscars in March.

Shaggy said he hung out with Chris Rock just a few nights before the Oscars 2022 slap.

“I was with him a couple of nights before that,” Shaggy told us exclusively.

“He’s an incredibly wonderful guy, incredibly wonderful guy. Gracious, super funny, and just one of the one of the better human beings I’ve met in a long time. Great guy.”

Shaggy spent time with Rock while they were in the company of his longtime pal Sting.

The “It Wasn’t Me” singer said that whenever he and the “Every Breath You Take” singer, 70, get together, there is “a lot of crap talking” involved.

“We snap on each other,” Shaggy added with a laugh.

The dancehall artist said when Sting learned he was on “The Masked Singer,” the former lead singer of The Police expressed interest in participating in the competition show — until he heard about the “heavy” costumes the participants have to wear.

However, Shaggy thinks Sting would make a great contestant because the “Roxanne” crooner is “super fit” and “incredibly competitive.”

“He’s going to compete with me and straight up try to beat me,” the “Angel” singer added, noting that Sting would try to make it to the show’s finale. “He’s a bit of an overachiever.”

The Season 7 finale airs May 18.

Just a few days later, Shaggy and Sting are set to release their latest musical collaboration.

“It’s called ‘Come Fly With Me,’” Shaggy told us of the album. “It’s actually 10 songs of the Sinatra songbook done in reggae, sung by me and produced by Sting, and that comes out on the 25th.”

He added, “We’re really excited. Sting and I, every time we get an opportunity to work together, we try to think of something outside of the box and crazy and shocking.”
