What do Snoop Dogg and John Travolta have in common? They both know how to steal the spotlight at an awards ceremony.
The “Gin and Juice” rapper, 50, made a hilarious surprise cameo on Monday when he presented the nominations for the 2022 Golden Globes.
As Snoop was reading off the names, he made a few blunders, reminiscent of Travolta’s infamous mishap at the 2014 Oscars, when it came to pronouncing the stars’ names.
When he announced Ben Affleck’s name for Best Supporting Actor nominee for his drama “The Tender Bar,” the Long Beach native called him “Been Afflay.”
“My fault, sorry, Ben Affleck, sorry for that Ben!” Snoop quickly said after his little gaffe.
When announcing “Belfast” star Ciarán Hinds’ nod in the same category, Snoop said “Ca-ron, no sorry, Karen Hinds, work with me now!”
The man formerly known as Snoop Lion also called “Dune” director Denis Villeneuve, “Dennis Villain Uawver,” during the reading for the Best Director, Motion Picture category.
Despite the recent controversies surrounding next year’s Golden Globes, fans tuned in and were surprised to see Snoop on screen. Of course, a pop culture moment such as this is not without viewers taking to social media to roll out the memes for him.
“Setting my ringtone to Snoop Dogg saying “Ben Affleck” #GoldenGlobes,” one fan joked on Twitter.
“i’m crying at snoop dogg turning denis villeneuve into a whole latino,” one wrote. Another added, “The way snoop dogg said Denis Villeneuve will always haunt me.”
One person tweeted, “Snoop Dogg saying Ben-a-fleck lives rent-free in my mind now.”
“Snoop Dogg painstakingly mispronouncing the name of every nominee at the #GoldenGlobes, even Ben Affleck, is verging on performance art,” added a viewer.
Another person quipped, “Losing my mind over Snoop Dogg mispronouncing nearly every name on the list, but only stopping to apologize to Ben Affleck.”
“Me: I will be ignoring The Golden Globes (again) this year Also me: They got Snoop Dogg to announce the nominations?! I must watch this!” one fan gleefully stated.
A fan tweeted, “Sorry, the Golden Globes barely exist this year, but Snoop Dogg reading the nominations is pure comedy. Dennis Villenueva is my new favorite director.”
“if snoop dogg hosts the golden globes,” another person said. “I wont be mad.”
