Spider-Verse Producers Dodge Tom Holland Question; Talk Art Style

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller recently talked about the different art styles in the film and avoided a question about Tom Holland.

With Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home bringing all three live-action Spider-Men together, fans want to see them jump into the animated Spider-Verse next with the upcoming sequel. During the press tour for Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Holland and Zendaya both expressed interest in joining Across the Spider-Verse.

When Collider asked Phil Lord and Chris Miller about whether or not they have talked to either Tom Holland or Zendya about joining Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the two avoided the question, talking instead about getting random phone calls from people. However, Miller did share that the upcoming sequel will feature different animated styles for each universe, as teased in the first trailer:

“It is, as Phil said, a very ambitious sequel, because we didn’t want to just sort of do the same thing again. And so the idea that we’d be going to different dimensions really opened up an opportunity artistically to have each world have its own art style, and to be able to push the folks at ImageWorks to develop a way to have each dimension feel like it was drawn by a different artist’s hand. Seeing the development of that stuff is breathtaking, and really, it’s the reason we keep doing it, because it’s so hard to get it right.”

Here is the synopsis for the next Spider-Verse film:

Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar®-winning Spider-Verse saga, an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.

Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson from a screenplay written by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Dave Callaham, the film features the voices of Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Oscar Isaac, and Issa Rae.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) will hit theaters on October 7, 2022.
