A new variant cover for The Flash prequel comic features Ben Affleck’s Batman in a blue suit.
The Flash won’t hit theaters until next summer, but fans will get to enjoy a prequel comic book series that will take place before the film’s events. The prequel story will follow a team-up between The Flash and Ben Affleck’s Batman.
The Flash: The Fastest Man Alive will be written by Kenny Porter and illustrated by
Ricardo López Ortiz. The series was initially set to come out in April but has now been delayed to October. Ahead of its release, a new variant cover drawn by director Andy Muschetti has been released and includes Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen suiting up and Ben Affleck’s Batman rocking a new look. You can check out the variant cover below.
Batman’s New Groove
The suit for Ben Affleck’s Batman glimpsed on the cover is one we’ve seen in The Flash set photos. While it was a little unclear then, it appears Affleck’s Batman will be sporting a blue suit for the first time in the upcoming film. We’ve also gotten a glimpse at what Michael Keaton will look like suited up again as his Batman.
Here is the synopsis for the upcoming comic book prequel:
Race through the streets of Central City in this lead-up to the hotly anticipated blockbuster The Flash! After Barry’s adventure with the Justice League, he’s determined to become a truly skilled and inspirational hero. As a new threat emerges in Central City going by the name of Girder, Barry turns to Batman for advice on training to master his powers. Can the Dark Knight help show the Scarlet Speedster a way to defeat this metallic menace, or will the Flash be crushed by Girder’s strength?
Directed by Andy Muschietti from a script written by Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson, The Flash is inspired by the Flashpoint comic book storyline, which followed Barry Allen as he navigated an altered DC Universe. Written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Andy Kuber, Flashpoint radically altered the status of the DC Comics universe and led to the launch of the New 52 titles.
In addition to Ezra Miller, The Flash also features Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck as two separate versions of Batman, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Antje Traue as Faora-Ul and Sasha Calle as Supergirl. Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Rudy Mancuso, and Luke Brandon Field are also on board in undisclosed roles.
The Flash is currently due to open on June 23, 2023. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding the future of The Flash, Ben Affleck’s Batman, and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
