The Rings Of Power Breaks Amazon Viewership Records

Amazon’s new series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power broke every viewership record in its first 24 hours of release.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power had its first two episodes debut last Thursday, and amidst all the negative headlines related to online trolls attempting to review bomb the series, the premiere went on to debut to record-breaking numbers for Amazon. The series, which is based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s iconic books, debuted to a stunning 25 million views in its first 24 hours.

Amazon spared no expense with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, committing to a 5-season production worth at least $1 billion. Despite review-bombing, that hasn’t stopped viewers from checking out the first two episodes to see how the creative team have brought J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle Earth to life for television.

It is worth noting that Amazon rarely releases their viewership data, and it is unknown what constitutes as a “view” for their streaming content, whether it pertains to people watching the entire program, or simply just pressing “play” regardless of what is actually watched. However, massive ratings are certainly something that the streaming giant can celebrate.

Here is the synopsis for The Rings of Power:

“This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.”

Amazon Studios is producing The Rings of Power in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line Cinema. J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are serving as showrunners and executive producers on the series.

The ensemble for the show consists of Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, and Daniel Weyman.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming series, and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
