A new trailer for Amazon’s upcoming Lord of the Rings prequel series, The Rings of Power, sees a host of new characters confronted by a comet hurtling towards Middle-Earth.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power tells the story of the forging of the titular rings, thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. A new trailer for the series teases the characters fans will meet in these earlier days of Middle-Earth.
A short teaser has been released online, with the full 60-second trailer available to Prime Video subscribers.
The teaser sees various new characters from The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power looking up to the skies to see a comet pass by overheard, only for it to come crashing down in the trailer’s final moments.
Included in the short teaser are Morfydd Clark’s Galadriel and Owain Arthur’s Prince Durin IV amongst others. The full-length trailer also reveals Benjamin Walker as High King Gil-galad and Markella Kavenagh’s Elanor ‘Nori’ Brandyfoot, as well as what appears to be a few Ents. Check out the new teaser below:
The full-length trailer for The Rings of Power on Prime Video also includes a look at Lenny Henry’s Sadoc Burrows, a Harfoot, the ancestors of the Hobbits. Sadoc can be heard warning “The skies are strange,” before his words are confirmed as the comet appears.
What role the comet plays in The Rings of Power and whether it is connected to the forging of the rings is not yet known, but it is clear this event will shake up all of Middle-Earth in a big way.
Here is the synopsis for the upcoming series:
This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.
Amazon Studios is producing The Rings of Power in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line Cinema. J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are serving as showrunners and executive producers on the series.
The ensemble for the show consists of Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, and Daniel Weyman.
