Tom Hardy reigns on Mobland, the new Cool thriller by Guy Ritchie (Critique)
He settles the small concerns and bloody affairs of a rich family of London gangsters and it is just delightful. Add Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren to hysterical sponsors, and you get a British Mafieux Polar treat.
A “fixing” (the French translation into “henchman” does not do justice to the profession) is the person responsible for solving problems, often in a muscular and effective way, in the shadow of large criminal families.
In MobLandit is precisely the role of Harry Da Souza, a charismatic gangster who finds himself at the heart of a brutal war between two mafia clans of London, which have been standing for decades. While a drama sets fire to the powder, Harry does everything he can to prevent bloodbath, which seems inexorable.
We take pleasure in seeing Tom Hardy Tribing his boxer’s build and his knockout pout from one end of the English capital to the other, to “fix” in towers.
MobLand does not reinvent the kind of the series of gangsters, but brings to the criminal tension an acid atmosphere at the Succession Absolutely delicious. Because within the rich and powerful Harrigan family, there are more or less loved and respected brothers, a sister a little away, a completely lit grandson and power struggles between heirs to know who will have the badge of honoring the mafia business of the paternal.
One has the impression of seeing the Roy won against the backdrop of black thriller. Because these fraternal bibes and shenanigans mingle with the bloody intrigue of the war of crime that the Harrigan and the Stevenson are engaged.
The cocktail works in full thanks to the sharp pen of Ronan Bennetttalented screenwriter of Top Boy (2011) and the recent Day of the Jackal (2024) – An exciting thriller worn by Eddie Redmayne (on Prime Video) – and thanks to the casting XXL, capable of giving body to this murderous merry -go -round. If Tom Hardy reign supreme on MobLandand that Paddy Considine (ex-westeros in in House of the Dragon) is still so good, we have fun especially in front of the show Helen Mirrenwho embodies a matriarch of the terrifying evil in the face of a Pierce Brosnan Who takes his foot in playing the sponsors.
On the baguette, the director Guy Ritchie transforms the material to its sauce Gentlemen. As usual with him, everything is too much But so cool.
Spectacularly violent and hypnotizing thanks to exuberant characters as possible, MobLand is one of the beautiful surprises of this spring to discover.
Mobland, season 1 in 10 episodes, to see in France on Paramount +.
