WASHINGTON — President Trump has accused ex-Director of Nationwide Intelligence James Clapper of mendacity about collusion between Russia and the Trump marketing campaign and being in cahoots with CNN.
In an interview with “Fox and Buddies” on Friday, Trump railed in opposition to the previous spy chief who claimed on CNN in December 2017 that Trump was a Russian “asset” that President Vladimir Putin knew the way to deal with.
“I perceive Clapper, he will get a pair of bucks from CNN and [CNN President] Jeff Zucker and that den of thieves over there, they inform him at CNN and MSDNC, they inform him precisely what to say,” he stated.
“You check out Clapper and also you watch him and also you say, the place does he get this? I didn’t make a telephone name for years and years to Russia … These are actually crooked individuals,” he continued.
The interview got here after the Home Intelligence Committee on Thursday launched transcripts of the FBI’s Russia probe in which Clapper admitted in July 2017 that he noticed no proof that the pair conspired.
“I by no means noticed any direct empirical proof that the Trump marketing campaign or somebody in it was plotting/conspiring with the Russians to meddle with the election,” Clapper stated.
Trump accused Clapper of “purely mendacity” and saying no matter CNN informed him to say.
“They tried to take down the president of america, a sitting, duly-elected president of america,” he stated.
