The upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong sequel has cast Beauty and the Beast and Downtown Abby star Dan Stevens in the lead role.
Last year, Godzilla vs Kong became Warner Bros’ biggest theatrical hit. In the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, Warner Bros opted to release all of its 2021 films on HBO Max as well as in theaters. The film was a big hit on HBO Max beating out other fan-favorite films like Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The film would go on to earn over $467M worldwide and unlike its predecessor, Godzilla: King of Monsters, was well received by critics. The future of the franchise, however, isn’t entirely clear.
Currently, a number of projects in the MonsterVerse are in the works. A full AppleTV series is in development as is a direct sequel to Godzilla vs Kong. Director Adam Wingard is currently set to return to the universe as the director. The new film will be shot in Australia sometime later this year and is rumored to be titled Son of Kong, indicating that it will be a King Kong-focused film. Now the film has found its lead.
According to a report from Deadline, Dan Stevens has been cast in the lead role of the upcoming film. Stevens is best known for his roles in the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast and the Downtown Abby series. Dan Stevens and Adam Wingard had previously worked together on the film, The Guest. Plot details on the upcoming film remain under wraps.
