Zoo returns two pandas to China due to bamboo shortage amid pandemic

Two large pandas will probably be despatched again to China from Canada as a result of the coronavirus pandemic has disrupted their provide of bamboo, the zoo stated.

The Calgary Zoo introduced that Er Shun and Da Mao, who have been on mortgage from China till 2023, will return early since zookeepers are struggling to import sufficient bamboo for them, CBC Information reported.

“That is an excessive amount of stress on my crew and on the pandas. Are you able to think about not having bamboo for a number of days?” zoo president Clément Lanthier advised the outlet.

Lanthier stated that delayed and canceled flights have resulted in substandard bamboo that has aged or are available in smaller portions.

Big pandas on common eat every day about 88 kilos of bamboo, which consists of nearly all of their food plan, the outlet reported.

The zoo fears that if there’s a second wave of coronavirus, the duty of getting them the right provides may grow to be unimaginable.
