Annecy’s International Animation Film Festival opens its doors this Sunday. Here are the highlights of the 2025 programming.
The Masterclass of the Simpsons dad, Matt Groening
Accompanied by the executive producer (Matt Selman) and the animation legend, David Silverman, the creator of SimpsonMatt Groening will host an unprecedented round table in Annecy on June 10. The opportunity to return to the heritage of this emblematic series that has become cult and rediscover the universe that has gone through generations thanks to exclusive creation secrets. Matt Groening will receive a special prize, an honor crystal, a way of honoring the impact of his work on gender.
The first images of Zootopia 2
This is a first in Annecy for the creative director of Walt Disney animation studios, Jared Bush (also Oscar -winning director and screenwriter). Its arrival at the festival will allow us to know more about the long -awaited Zootopia 2 that he will present on June 13. The opportunity to follow our two favorite heroes – Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde – in a new thrilling adventure in Zootopia. While the police are at their case, the fantastic duo of the rabbit and the fox will be responsible for a new mission – under cover – to protect a snake named Gary (doubled by Ke Huy Quan).
The preview ofAnimal Farm d’Andy Serkis
The event event will also welcome Andy Serkis to present his brand new animated family comedy, inspired by the eponymous novel by George Orwell. In this new film, he tells the rebellion of a group of farm animals who, after having driven out their farmer from his land, benefit from a limitless freedom and a peaceful life. But that is without counting the power struggles which, by intensifying, jostle the calm of the farm. Written by Nick Stoller and produced by Aniventure and Imaginarium, Animal Farm but in a series of many works items: Seth Rogen, Matarazza’s Gate, Laverne Cox, Iman Vellani, Image Culkin, Jim Parsons.
The Netflix line-up: first images of the series Stranger Things and extracts from the film In your dreams
Much awaited, the series Stranger Things will unveil the first images of his new season during a world premiere of the Eric Roble showrunner. As part of a round table, director Alex Woo, artistic director Steven Pilcher, and the supervisor of visual effects Nicola Lavender, will also present unpublished extracts from their next film In your dreams. This adventure comedy follows Stevie and his brother Elliott on an expedition in the world of dreams to find The Sandman, with the hope that he realizes their dearest wish: save the marriage of their parents.
The masterclass of a guest of honor, Michel Gondry
Michel Gondy in Annecy is also a first in the history of the festival. To underline his major contribution to the world of animation, the director of the cult Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind will receive an honor crystal. Famous for staging many clips thanks to techniques borrowed from animation cinema such as Stop Motion, he notably produced Animated conversation with Noam Chomsky In 2014, a real success. His presence at the festival will also be an opportunity to discover behind the scenes of the creative process of his last work: Maya, give me a title.
The preview of Fixed de Genndy Tartakovsky
The last achievement of Genndy Tartakovsky will be discovered in preview at the top of animation in Annecy. Fixed presents itself as animation for adults, trash, vulgar, original and will draw its inspiration from an old -fashioned style (an aesthetics specific to the director), in 2D cartoon. The film is scheduled for August 13 on Netflix and this preview in Annecy will be an opportunity to discover the story of Bull, a dog who learns that he will be castrated the next day. Determined to live a last 24 -hour adventure with his best friends, he is not going to do exactly what he imagined of this last day … the director ofTransylvania hotel and the sublime series Primal should not disappoint!
Le Focus Pixar: exclusive images of Elio, Hoppers and Toy Story 5
The creative director of Pixar will host an unprecedented presentation in which the famous American studios will look up at their latest creations. The long -awaited directors ElioMadeline Sharafian, Domee Shi and Mary Alice Drumm, will unveil exclusive images of the film. Producer Mary Alice Drumm (Coco) will also be present. This new animated feature film will follow the adventures of a little boy with a lot of imagination which, passionate about astronomy, finds itself teleported by accident at the heart of an interplanetary organization. This conference will also be an opportunity to discover the first images of Hoppers We follow the story of Mabel, an animal lover who discovered a new technology allowing to pass human consciousness in robots.
Finally, Peter Doctor will not fail to celebrate as it should be the 30th anniversary of Toy Story, by sharing the public exclusive Images of behind the scenes of the fifth installment. This series of animated films has marked the great story of the genre in the red iron. Make way for nostalgia with a trip through the beginnings of the Pixar studio and this founding film. It has been almost three decades that generations grew up with the adventures of Buzz, Woody and their companions. In Toy Story 5the arrival of the new technology is likely to upset the famous family of toys once again.
